Leadership Announcement - November 2020 

 

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces Cordelia Heaney’s departure as Executive Director of Compass Center for Women and Families effective January 31, 2021.

 

Since 2015, Cordelia has played a critical role in the growth and development of the organization with her unique mix of experience, strengths, and interests. We cannot thank Cordelia enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation she has given Compass Center over the past five years. 

 

We want to thank her for this dedicated service and many significant achievements including:

 

• Increasing the range of services provided within our mission to more thoroughly meet the needs of our community;

         

• Working with new and existing funders and donors to develop resources to enable the organization to increase staff capacity to respond to increasing client demand and needs; and

 

• Overseeing the development of, and fundraising for, our new crisis housing program for survivors of domestic violence and their children.

 

We wish Cordelia the best of luck in her new endeavors in New Orleans.

 

Effective February 1, 2021, Ardith Burkes, MPH, MSW, LCSW and Susan Friedman, MSW will be Co-Interim Executive Directors. Susan, current Associate Director, has served the agency for eight years. Ardith, current Grants Director, has worked with the agency for twelve years and also served as Interim Executive Director in the last transition period. Due to their experience and thoughtful leadership we know Compass Center is in good hands while our search committee works to find our next Executive Director. 

 

Cordelia is leaving us in a strong position and we look forward to finding an equally strong candidate to take us into the future.
